They will allways find a convincing reason: Shelter, Security, Peace, Freedom, Democracy,- even the will of God.

This relief refers in its lower part to a plaque of Friedrich Wilhelm Hörnlein (1873-1945) - a plaque , which was edited on the occasion of the assault of Nazi-Germany on the Soviet Union (1941).
The text on the plaque is a part of a speech of Adolf Hitler in the Reichstag :

"The assignment of this front is not the shelter of singular countries, but the safeguarding of Europe and the rescue of all."

The original German text reads:
"... DIE AUFGABE DIESER FRONT IST DAHER NICHT MEHR DER SCHUTZ EINZELNER LÄNDER, SONDERN DIE SICHERUNG EUROPAS UND DAMIT DIE RETTUNG ALLER."

The theme of this relief is not the violence of singular persons, but the violence of ideologies, institutions and states - even if they pretend to want the very best for all.
